Supporting   young   people

  • what makes us different
  • Step Up

  • The Step Up programme is aimed at young people aged 13 to 19, offering accredited training in basic construction and community art. This enables them to gain work experience by being involved in the construction of a community garden. The project runs alongside the construction of the community gardens, and will increase skills and confidence, helping young people to find suitable progression routes and leading to an ASDAN accredited qualification in Employability. This provision can be accessed by referral from PAs, teachers and other agencies.

The programme runs alongside school terms commencing in September, January and April and is part of a 12-week cycle; usually within this time a community garden is completed. Young people can be involved in the process from start to completion.

The ‘Step Up’ programme runs along side the construction of the community gardens. The coursework is based around the practical work undertaken at the project and the personal development of those involved.

The course is accredited by ASDAN, a nationally recognised accrediting body, the qualifications have been approved by the regulatory authorities for England (Ofqual) and are approved by the Secretary of State under Section 96 and 97 of the Learning and Skills Act, for pre and post 16 provision.

HPS complies with all policies and regulations relevant to the sector including Health and Safety and Child Protection. All staff and volunteers are CRB checked.

“Hyde Park Source remains an example of good practice in running a 12 week course to challenging learners and clearly capturing the learning experiences. Very well constructed portfolios, containing regular reviews which are simple to follow, via activity diaries and worksheets. There is also evidence of goal setting and tracking of progress. The whole 12 week course is clearly laid out”

Jackie Roper, 14-19 Quality Manager, Education Leeds (inspection report January 2010)
