Step Up

The innovative and award-winning Step Up project has been running since January 2007, but our young people’s service provision has been developing since 1998 and draws on a wealth of experience.

We offer accredited training for young people aged 13-16 (Year 9, 10 and 11) in basic construction and community arts. Young people will gain work experience by being involved in the construction of a community garden from start to finish. Skills gained will be everything from demolition, to bricklaying and paving and mosaic and willow weaving.

We are offering taster days (full day, morning or afternoon sessions) free of charge for young people who want to give it a try and see if it’s for them.

To book a viewing, taster session, a place on the course or just find out more information contact Emma or Chris on 0113 245 8863.

Step Out

The Step Out project has been running since January 2007 and is aimed at people aged 16 to 25. It is free of charge and beneficiaries can join at any time.

The course is accredited by The Open College Network; a nationally recognised accrediting body that acknowledges that learning can take place in a variety of situations, and can be of equal value to that pursued in more traditional settings.

The course work helps beneficiaries understand what employers are looking for, reviewing attendance, time keeping, health and safety aspects, equal opportunities and appropriate behaviour. It will also help beneficiaries take control of their own learning, establish interests and learning styles and ensures personal development. The course will increase skills and confidence, and help volunteers find suitable progression routes.

The project runs alongside the construction of the community gardens. The course is based around the practical work undertaken at the project and the personal development of those involved.
