Autumn is setting in but the plants are holding the vibrant colours of summer. We have harvested the first dye plants today! Debbie (our in-house an expert dyer) told us about harvesting the dyer's chamomile (the flowers and stems) and the goldenrod flowers. We are drying these to use in a workshop later on in the year. Look out for a free give it a go dye session and a harvest celebration, where we will be cooking up the produce we have grown!
We have been enjoying the summer at the Armley garden. The plants are loving all the sunshine and we are harvesting lots of courgettes, beans, and kale. The tomatoes are popping from green to red and taste amazing! When you open the tomato house the smell fills the whole garden. Lesley got immersed in it as we battled the jungle of branches to expose the heavy fruit.
It is great to still be getting new volunteers turning up and exciting but a little sad that some of our regulars are busy starting horticulture college and new jobs!
