Gardens |
Since
1998 we have created over 40 (and rising) community gardens
in the streets around Burley Lodge and Hyde Park, Leeds.
Each
is as individual as the residents who request and live on either
side of the garden. Themes range from children play areas (Barbie
World) to the Permaculture Garden to understated relaxation
spaces such as Ruel's Garden. Click on the Consultation and
Maintenance
link for more information about the consultation process.
Each
garden takes around 3 months to complete and is created by a wide
diversity of people teaching and learning skills.
Every
space is created with minimum cost to the environment in mind.
Wherever possible we reuse and recycle resources. An example
of this is that when possible we will always reclaim the
bricks from
the walls we knock down. This involves us trying to keep bricks
whole during the wall demolishing process and then patiently
'scutching' the old cement from them with bolster chisel
and lump hammer.
Not only does this reduce the cost of waste disposal, but also
means less landfill and preservation of the area's heritage.
Hyde
Park Source has also created recreational spaces for community
projects. These tend to be larger than the binyard gardens an
provide a place for people attending different organisations and
the wider community to relax and unwind. |
