6 weeks completed!! I am very near the finish line of my placement and I have been very busy as usual at Hyde Park Source.
Week 6 was pretty hectic and it felt like the week never stopped. We done so much this week and we spent two days in Hetchell Woods with Leeds Coppice Workers. Wednesday we took a group from the Rosebank group and a family from the Killingbeck group. We went to Hetchell Woods and we spent the day there doing outdoor activities, such as den building, fence building and learning about the woods and what the role of the Leeds Coppice Workers is within the woods. The day was overall very successful with one or two hiccups, one being we had a young child upset because his wellies got muddy...something that we could not avoid considering the environment. Behla made a hot lunch which was a nice treat in the woods, tomato soup and cheesy pitta breads! I left Hetchell Woods on Wednesday, muddy, tired, but excited to be back there again the next day.
Thursday we took a group from 'Cross Green Community Group' out to Hetchell Woods, they were very excited and ready to go to the woods and get stuck into the work. Thursday was a completely different day to Wednesday because the group dynamic was different as they were a lot older. We done more work with the woods, we done layering and some tidying up of the woodland area. We learnt so much about what layering is, what coppicing is and why is it essential for this to happen in order to benefit the woodland areas.
Friday at Richmond Hill was so successful because we had a team of 20 volunteers from NHS who came out to help us for the day. So much work was done and the progress of the sight had changes drastically from the previous week. It was brilliant to get some extra hands on the project, the work we got done on Friday would have taken weeks longer if we hadn’t have had volunteers helping us.
Next week is the start of my 7th week at placement, meaning I have only 3 left. Hopefully I will have a successful and enjoyable three weeks remaining at Hyde Park Source.
Until next time.
